About SACH

General Information
Shamokin Area Community Hospital, a facility nestled in the hills of Coal Township, Pennsylvania, provides quality health care in a professional, yet, compassionate manner. By providing a diverse range of services, SACH can meet most of your routine medical needs close to home.

The Lower Anthracite Hospital Corporation is the parent company for SACH and Northumberland Health Services. SACH is proudly affiliated with Chestnut Hill Personal Care Home, which is a division of NHS.

Dating back to 1912, the origins of SACH lie in providing care to coal miners and their families. Over the years, the hospital has evolved into providing not only acute care, but many other services as well. The Outpatient Specialty Clinics, located on the first floor of the hospital, enable area residents to have access to a variety of medical and surgical physician specialists. These include: Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Otolaryngology, Orthopaedics, Pain Management, Physiatry and Medical Acupuncture, and Surgery.

SACH accept a wide range of insurance plans and serves patients of all ages, making your care accessible locally. Currently, there are 135 physicians on the hospital’s medical staff, specializing in 26 areas of medicine and surgery. The Hospital is licensed for 70 beds, which include seven intensive care/cardiac care beds, 38 medical/surgical care beds, 15 transitional care beds and 10 inpatient geriatric psychiatry beds.

In addition to 24 hour coverage in the emergency room, the hospital also operates a same day surgery center, OR, and recovery room. Ancillary inpatient and outpatient services are provided through the following departments: Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Mobile MRI, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Anesthesia, Food Service, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Echocardiography, Pain Management, and Occupational Medicine. We do not offer Obstetrics.

The hospital also provides various outpatient specialty clinics, such as cardiology, dermatology, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), gastroenterology, gynecology, physiatry (physical medicine), general and vascular surgery, and orthopaedics. The clinics are located on the first floor of the hospital, and allow patients convenient access to this myriad of specialty services.

The hospital's medical staff is heavily oriented toward family practice and internal medicine, with a large majority of physicians in private practice locally. Approximately 75% of the physicians on the medical staff are board certified.
