Echocardiography Department
Shamokin Area Community
Hospital (SACH) is equipped with it's own echocardiography
department.
Echocardiography allows physicians to visualize the anatomy, structure,
and function of the heart in order to diagnose the presence and severity
of heart valve problems or determine abnormal blood flow within the
heart.
This window to the heart enables physicians to diagnose a number of
cardiovascular diseases, so a patient can begin proper treatment.
An echocardiogram uses high-frequency sound waves to see all four
chambers of the heart, the heart valves, blood vessels entering and
leaving the heart and the sack around the heart.
SACH' s echocardiography department is
equipped with a Sonos 5500 Cardiac Ultrasound machine,
a digital echo lab and offers the convenience
of having a study done at locally as cardiologists from
Hershey Medical Center or Geisinger Medical Center interpret
results.
The echocardiography department conducts pediatric studies not requiring
sedation, which are read by pediatricians and cardiologists at Hershey
Medical Center.
A physician referral is required for an echocardiogram.
